when i use to write stories, I use to start thinking about a character i really cared about and then elaborate and write about the character and the point they are at in their life and it should all flow from there, you can bring in characters as they come.

Don't force yourself though, just let it flow, you have to really care about the character and their life to get into it.

Goodluck!

There's a wonderful book called "Writer's Market." You can check it out at the library or buy it in a bookstore for about $25.00. It will tell you all you need to know. Also, there are many books in the library reference section on writing. I'm speaking of books rather than info on line because there's so much to refer to and you'll need to keep going back to the same chapters.

I can give you a hint how to start. Choose the theme of your novel. Plot it out. Create the characters. Outline everything. Don't just sit down at the keyboard and start typing. It's a long and complicated process. Published writers often take years to write their first novel.

If you mean "start" by actually starting to write, then decide what you want to write. Do you like realistic fiction? mystery? science fiction? It's hard to start writing if you don't have at least a general idea about what you want to do. Then, just outline/brainstorm your plot. This works wonders for many people. However, you might just want to dive in and start writing your story from page one, like some pretty talented writers do. It all depends on what you are like.

if you mean "start" by getting your book published, then I think you should first of all get others to read your book. Let people of the audience you are targeting (children, teens, adults?) read your novel and then discuss it. You will get some very valuable feedback on improving your book, and how good it is, as well as if it is real "publishing" material. After this, make changes!

A lot of people get stuck on the first line, even when they've got a lot of good ideas. One good way to get started is to go to a search engine and just type "writing prompts", or flip through an encyclopedia or dictionary and pick out a random entry and use it as your first line or a starter idea. Has a friend recently said something to you that stuck in your head? Use that. After you get the first few words down and they sound good to you, the rest will flow :)

gather you ideas. learn about the main character ( age, hobbies... ect.) what is the story about. what is the major conflict? who are the characters? time and place?. i dont know how to help you. you dont just get up one day and decide to write a novel. first write about the conflict ( 10-20 pages) and then build around it.

Go to your local library. One book I bought was by Roberta Jean Bryant - "Anybody Can Write". I bought this book a while ago, however, I am sure the library has a lot of books on the subject. Good Luck!

I'd start by making an outline of the plot. Figure out who your main characters are going to be, what's going to happen...sketch it out so you can get a rough picture of what you're going to do. It'll be much easier to begin writing after you've got the story's base developed.

maybe try using your own experiences.
Have you gone anywhere interesting or had anything cool happen to you?
Also try writing about something that you would want to happen to you, etc.
Hope that helps!
and remember just keep trying. It might be hard at first, but after you keep going it will get better!
Good luck!
