I'm on PC running Win XP. Only since yesterday my screen has flickered off (not my monitor) to totally black and back on again. It does this periodically. What does this mean? Could there be something wrong with my hard drive or OS? My virus protection and all are up to date...

thanks

It's either the cabling or the monitor may be on its last legs.

If it's an older CRT monitor it's not uncommon for the gun, or the coil to go bad over time. It certainly could be other components as well. But in TV's and CRT monitors the big coil on the neck of the picture tube can get weak spots in the varnish on the wires from the constant heating and cooling over time. This allows shorts and arc overs that cause temporary or permanent failure.

Also the gun that shoots electrons to paint the picture can simply start not performing well. But usually this involves picture degradation and not going "black".

This problem you are experiencing has no basis in your Hard Drive, OS, or any of your other software.

Hope this helps.

It could be the power cord on your monitor or the connection between your monitor and video card. Check those things first.
