#2, but I pick something special/unique on their registry, not just a piece of a set like a place setting.
PS. I have some friends who get all angry when someone goes off registry. I think there is nothing wrong with that. It often means they put more thought into it.

I'll normally get something on their registry, but if one of the to-be-marrieds is someone I am quite familiar with, I'll take the time to look for and purchase something special to the couple.

Depends on the couple. If they like adventurous things than I would get them a gift card to go rock climbing. If they were calm and quiet I would get them something that is calm and quiet. If they were already pregnant then I would get them baby stuff. it always depends on the person.

It depends on who it is. I usually try to buy a unique gift that expresses myself as well as being something the couple will use. I like to give fun gifts.

I always give Something they have on their registry. I really don't like giving money, so this way I know they are getting something they want.

I give money to people I really don't know well.
For friends and family who are important , and dear to me, I give a special unique gift of my choosing, so they remember their special day, and ME!
The money goes fast, but those special gifts I will always have, possibly longer than my husband.
