I do kind of agree. I don't like it either when big players just go somewhere for just the money. I lose respect for them if and when they play just for money. I also think that Beckham is getting way too much money to play in the MLS. If the LA Galaxy can afford it then good for them. I worry that since he is going to be getting so much money to play here, that other big name European players that may come after him will expect the same. I never would have offered him so much money because of that and the possible risk of the league going bankrupt. I know that the MLS isn't that close to the level of the world class leagues of Europe but it is improving. I love the MLS because I'm an American and it's my country's domestic league. Without it our national team doesn't really stand much of a chance of improving. The US needs this league and I wouldn't want it to fold. That would break my heart. I want it to succede and be a successful league. I think that big players should retire with big clubs rather than moving to a smaller club for more money to retire. It doesn't say much for the player. It tells me that he loves money more than playing for honor, glory, and love of the game. If a big name player chose to retire playing in the MLS, I would only hope that it would be because they wanted to help the sport here and because maybe they actually liked the league, not because they were lured in by big money.

No cause what if the big clubs are going to just sit them on the bench and get no playing time. Look to me the middle east or some obscure European league, or a crappy European league is dumb for them. Look while the MLS isnt great it is still better than Saudi Arabia, or retiring early. They get money and a whole new chance to win at another level and teach the game of soccer all round the world. And plus they still wanna play so let them play any where they want.

No i do not agree... if you love playing the game that much and can still offer something to a slightly lesser skilled team then why not do so(And why not get paid well for doing so?). Too many people think that without the glamour why bother to play football... if thats the case why have Divisions 1 and 2 or non league football at all. Look at players like Paul merson and Ray Parlour...they were great premiership players but show just how much they love football by dropping down the leagues when age caught up with them.

Big players need financial security as they retire & the clubs from MLS & Mid-East provide more money than the player can ask for, an old player would never get so much wage in Europe so in a way it is a good deal to switch from playing on a big to a smaller club.

There is no question Man United are the biggest club in the world. Please take note of these facts; Highest Fan base in the world roughly 330million 5% of world population. Highest valued club in the world. This includes all sports clubs outstripping the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees. You can check this on the Forbes website. Highest average attendance in the world even though Madrid and Barce have higher capacity stadiums. Highest operating profit in the world for all sport clubs again. The only reason players all of a sudden wants to join Madrid is the lower tax band and higher wages, money that has been borrowed and not from its profits.

It is somewhat true. Last year, Romario played for Miami in the United Soccer League, I'm sure noone knows that.
I don't agree with you about coming to the US as being a bad move, but the player has to be a big name unlike Youri Djorkaeff when he joined the NY Red Bulls. Also, a player would still have to be on top of their game and not a 40 year old at the end of his game. In that last case they should stay in Europe or go to Saudi Arabia but there I don't think their wives would follow them.

well yes and no
yes because they are retireing with a well known club and its a honor
but no because when they are getting old they wont get the playing time the use to get, but if the go to the USA, or Middle east then they will get more Playing time and besides they will go out heroes. for Example Beckham coming to the US is good for him not only because of the Money but alot of kids look up to him and dont hate him for the mistakes he's comited in the past, but instead love him.

Well yeah cuz if they retire with such little insignificant clubs is like the fire they once started was just blown out with water instead of slowly with time. It's better for them to end their careers in big clubs that way it'll leave a good image of who they once were instead of just blown out with some cheap club. I'm not trying to trash MLS clubs but really, great players belong in great clubs. They should ''bury their careers in great coffins''.

Big players should retire with the club they love or the club they have made an impact at, whether it's Aston Villa, Man Utd or whatever.
