when you delete internet history does it go somewhere else? how do you make sure its all deleted?

i wanna delete history of certain sites. it gets stored in cookies right? where are all the places i need to delete it from?

You can delete all you want but, the only positive way of removing all history is to remove and destroy the hard drive. To overwrite files is simply deleting all files after you finish working on your computer. This must be done continually. This means that the previous files are overwritten. You can also download Web Eraser Free but i forget the name of the site so you will need to carry out a search for it.

Yes, deleting your internet history just deletes it from your browser, it still resides in your HDD. There are several ways of accessing them, either by command, or using a 3rd party software. Even if you formatted your hard disc, it's still possible to access the files, though it's a little bit more hard to do so. Your best bet is to use a complete delete tool, like CCleaner, to delete those files. A bit of an overkill, if you're not a trying to hide porn, or terrorist communication. p/s : If you're using Chrome, there's an option of using the incognito window, which google claims does not keep track of any of your browsing history. Haven't tested it yet though, so not sure if it's 100% foolproof.

If you use the delete options the disk space is marked for re-use, though the data is still there until it is overwritten. If you visit a bad site and delete the data a specialist would be able to recover the details UNLESS you have visited a lot of other sites and re-used the disk space. Alternatively you could use something like Evidence Eliminator to scrub the details out.

If you click the delete all option in tools it gets rid of everything, cookies etc. It's a bit of a pain then when you go to regular sites and have to fill in your user name and password every time. I did it earlier tonight as my computer was running a little slow but it's ok now.

Press Ctrl+H, and click the 'History' tab.
If you want to find the history of a certain site faster, click the drop down arrow and sort it 'By Site'.

The URLs are now listed.
Find the history of a certain site that you want to delete, right-click and 'Delete'.

Works on IE7 and Firefox2.

Go into internet options. Delete temporary files, history, cookies, saved passwords, and web form information.

If you want to delete all of that information including cookies, try this one, if you are using ie7, click “Tools”, then “Internet Options”…..on the “General” tab, find “Browsing History” then click “Delete”, in my case, I deleted them all. Don't mind whether it goes somewhere, as far as you have made them erased.

All data is recoverable unless you really want it gone, so I would wonder what the hell are you doing to worry?

If you are that paranoid then you need to make sure that the disk sectors that the data was written to are overwritten. (not that I will tell you how to do that)..

Being a good citizen will save you the effort..
