I am from the UK
My impression of the USA (having only been twice, but always been interested) is that like the UK is that we both stood for the higher values in life - justice, freedom, self determination and strength.

Also like the UK if something had Made in the USA on it , you knew it was a great product, probably the best in the World.

Since Blair and Bush both are led by looneys, both have sold their industry down the river to China, world opinion is at an all time low, patriotism is profanity and greed is the Government sponsored ideolgy.

The US, we might not have always liked them, but we always loved them, for their ingenuity, love of life, patriotism, big cars, big houses, gung ho attitude, now I look what our leaders have done to us and think why did we let that happen?

God bless the American people.

God forgive George Bush!

Its a fantastic country, whatever way you look at it.
The disappointing factor is though your record of Foreign Policy...Most notably in the Middle East, since 9/11 it has been a disaster.
The War in Iraq was seen as unjust and illegal by many throughout the world + the unilateral support of Israel..These are the factors as to why, in my opinion the USA is so disliked throughout the world.
People see Bush as masochist & see the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as part of your global policing.
Once Bush leaves, hopefully the issue will subside - though I don't remember so many people having this problem/issue whilst Clinton was in power.

Ive loved all things American since your forces over here in WW2 gave us kids sweets (candy). You know about democracy so you must expect contradicting replies but in my opinion the USA is admired by the majority of Brits, and with good reasons. Falling out on detail does happen in the closest families. For me they are and have been our allies since 1900 and our Cousins. The majority of names in the USA are Anglo - American. If I was American I would vote for Bush.

I see that not a single UK or Eire resident has answered so far! That pretty much answers the question: Americans think a lot of themselves.

That's not to say that all do: I'm sure there are loads of great American people, just like everywhere else in the world.

I can see why Americans love their country so much: great landscapes, etcetera, plus the great hope and excitement that the first pioneers from Europe put in the new life they were going to find, it must have been a dream come true, and I think the USA still lives on that vibe. Starting afresh, on a new continent. Wow! that must have been something. then gaining independence from Europe, and so on.

The world at large knows America for different things, mainly movies, and they are great! But there are things about the US that freak me out, personally, like Jesus camps (sounds like brainwashing camp for the retarded, I've seen a video and it was like mad people possessed), the fact that academics don't believe in evolution, I mean, how backward is that??! The whole uber-religious, jusgemental and pig ignorant thing, then the fact that the US acts as if there were no poor and deprived people living there, when I've read somewhere that 10% of the population lives below the poverty line. That's 1million Americans every 10millions. That's a whole lot of peeps! Starving, no medical care, no education, GUMMO conditions of living. scary.

Great American universities. Then you watch Bowling for Columbine and learn that the poorer kids have to learn only advertising and get expelled for wearing a different shirt to school than what the school sponsors want. ???! Weird! Criminal. that's keeping your own people ignorant.

Without mentioning school shootings. I've never heard of students being shot while at school in any other country in the world. Where there's no civil war going on, at least! Everyone can blow your head off at any time, all they need to do is to be in a bad mood and to step into a store and buy a gun. I wouldn't live like that if they paid me! It's just too totally asylum.

Great hospitals. But if you don't have enough cash they let you die on the doorstep! There is no free healthcare for the poor (the millions above), regardless of age, even children and the old people are left to die. Is this true? That's not very human, is it?
As I say, all I know about America is what the media say about it. I've never been there and I don't plan to EVER, so there you have it, what do I really know?

Americans seem to think themselves SOOO superior to everyone else, then they're surprised if they're not well liked anywhere. Kinda arrogant.
To those Americans that think that the USA is so much better than everywhere else I say: don't ever get out of it. Not even for a holiday abroad, just stay there! But no, everywhere you go in Europe it's guaranteed there's an American.

And re Bush: I think he's just your average Texan boy. I don't see the outrage, he seems the perfect American to me! Boastful, hating everyone who's not a US citizen, just like the people who answered above.
His likes have shot Kennedy, of course he's in power. He won't get shot either!

The USA is the most diverse country on earth. It's impossible to say 'Americans are this' or 'Americans are that'. George Bush is one person - and he is a prat. One thing i would say is that from the outside it looks like the USA is trying to create an empire, this is one of the main reasons so many people dislike yor country. Welcome to our Yahoo though....

Totally disappointed that such a great nation is intent on war, destruction and creating global division when it could so easily ensure peace and stability throughout the world.

America could have been the greatest nation that ever existed in the history of this planet if it were not for greedy, selfish evil little men like Bush and his cronies, instead it is probably the most hated and mis-trusted country in the world.

USA is a great country filled with lots of Americans that have no pride. I don't personally know George Bush, so I can't really say much about him.
