Yes, but only because it got me close to the chicks.

I played with Barbies, Legos and Hot Wheels pretty much equally.
I think toy companies are trying to get Barbie to be an "anything girl"--covering different careers and the military as well as stereotypical female roles, but I agree that some Barbies (and dolls similar) now are a little too..."adult-looking" for MY little girl. She received one for her birthday and I didn't realize until later on that the particular Barbie had a tattoo on her hip :P Had to cover THAT topic quite fast with my daughter.

I did, and I do think that they have a big part in bad self-esteem in girls these days. For some reason they didn't when Barbies first came out, but in the 90s and now everyone wants to be skinny, so Barbie kind of makes the problem worse.
I was very vicious with my Barbies. Most of them were headless, or with Crayola-marker colored stubbly hair.

The whole Barbie controversy is unnecessary. I remember clearly how I felt about my Barbie. She was a doll. She was incredibly fun to play with. She had clothes to change, great accessories and hair to mess with. (who else used pearl-tipped pins for updos?)
I never thought she was real. I never worried about the supposed pressure of looking like her when I grew up. She was a doll, and I knew what that meant. She was fun.
The marketing is heavier now, with the best clothes only available with the purchase of a new doll. (Shame on Mattel!) When I was a child, we each had one Barbie. In my family, I had the dark-haired doll and my sister had a blonde (guess why!) Each of our friends had her own Barbie, and we each brought our own doll in her case full of clothes when we wanted to "Play Barbies."

Yes, I played with them until I was about 13 and even as an adult I played games on the barbie website, lol.
And barbie's are classic so all these BRATZ and My Scene dolls are just wannabes, lol.

Yes i did play with them and I think they are fine now days also. I believe there is a large hype over what "brand" of barbie to play with when they are pretty much the same thing.....

Oh yeah, I had the Barbie motor home & Barbie Corvette & too many Barbies & accessories to keep track of....over the years they seem to have lost their mystique, they don't seem as special, it's like they are not the favorite toy anymore, but they are classic & have stood the test of time & will always be collectibles....

I was a tomboy--I took them out to the boys so we could run them over with tonka trucks & see what happened. I also removed their heads to see how their hair stayed on.
Now, I feel about the same--they're just dolls to dress up and play with as you want to.
BUT---today there are REAL PEOPLE trying to look like Barbie dolls, and perpetuate the myth that all women need to like like that.
And that is a huge problem for all women & girls throughout the whole WORLD.

I didn't play with them like changing their clothes or going shopping. They were GI Joes girl who went with him out on adventures outside in the bad or good weather. I wanted to be a boyfriend and husband like my dad. They were great for fulfilling that imaginary playing. Today, they are still excellent for babysitting my niece. She loves them. Barbie is only fantasy and not reality. All toys are inferior to the real things. It cannot be a role model for real females because it is only a lifeless object.

Yeah, and my brothers stole them, ripped off their heads, stuck blackcat firecrackers in their necks, and lighted them. They also threw them off balconies. I think that is why I am so messed up today. Actually, I still play with Barbies, but much differently. I rip off Barbies head and then get a Ken doll and rip off it's head and the put Barbie's head on Ken's neck and Ken's head on Barbie's neck. So, then Ken has ummmm... "Lady lumps" and Barbie has a Six-pack!
