Were black people accepted in schools in 1970's?

I wanna know how was the overall about black people in schools in the 70"s.

I started the 70s in a mixed school on Long Island, NY, moved to a mostly white American Community School in Ethiopia, moved back to the mixed NY school district, then moved to an almost all white school in the SF Bay area. I had a few minor problems at the last one, but nothing that bad. But there was a huge episode with integration of schools in Boston during the 70s.

I think that black people did okay in the 70s
