I see what you're getting at and I totally agree. Duncan deserves more credit than what he's getting. I'm not even his fan but I really respect his skills and attitude. Duncan truly belongs with the great ones one there. People doesn't appreciate his greatness because he doesn't do anything fancy and is so quiet but what he really is is a winning formula. Duncan is the type of player you build a team around. And he is a man of class since he doesn't fight with other players and just plays it professionally. Even if Duncan doesn't win his fourth ring, he already deserves to be a hall of famer.
And did you know that Duncan never had a losing season before and wins the finals everytime they get there? That's just one proof that this guy is a winner. Say what you say about him but he definitely defines greatness. He has a very keen understanding of the game and what it is all about.

LeBron is without a doubt the future of the league. He's flashy, he has a sense of style, and fans love him, so of course the media are going to drool all over him. LeBron deserves his accolades.
Now, having said that, it's a CRIME the way that Tim Duncan is ignored. This guy has defied the odds time and again, he's a classy champion with 3 rings, he led his team quietly to yet another NBA Finals in the wake of all of the Dallas and Phoenix hoopla (by the way, I'm a huge Suns fan, but I like to give credit where it's due), and he's done it all while being largely ignored. He's not flashy, but he gets the job done better (and more consistently) than anyone else in the league.
I hope if he wins a 4th ring people will pay him a bit more respect. The sad thing is that he shouldn't have to - he's the quintessential leader and champion, proven over a decade of amazing basketball.

Average basketball fans would always cheer for the flashy, flamboyant but not a winner. They would ignore the simple, consistent, effective and winning type of player, that's what the average basketball mind thinks. Meanwhile, the intelligent minds of basketball have always praised Tim Duncan's excellency, his simplicity, his class act. He is a proven leader and winner whether we like it or not.

NO because he is not that kind of a personality, he is one of the best ever when it comes to playing but not in marketing. And ESPN has to hype James, because that makes the finals interesting. Tim does not get hoopla because he does not seek the hoopla

People do give Tim Duncan his whatever.. Just that the majority of NBA fans would still find him boring because he isn't entertaining enough. Even those who find him boring still recognize Tim probably is the best PF of all time. That's why NBA analysts call him Mr. Fundamental...

You mean when, don't you?
I think ESPN is kind of like the crowd at a rock concert: so noisy they can't even hear the music.
Timmy's fans are more like an opera crowd: they pay close, respectful attention and feel like weeping for joy when it's over.

People will always live in denial about Tim Duncan. They hate the fact that their favorite players just don't measure up to him.
