It is a fresh rebuild, it has a new racing stator, it is getting fire, it is getting gas, but wont start. The kill switch is not hooked up. I put a straight key in the flywheel but my buddy said it might have an offset key or something. I dont know if the timing is set right. I dont know what else to look for.

Carburetion, compression, ignition. The three things you need to start. If you pull the plug and get a spark on kicking, try dumping a teaspoon of fuel into the cyliner, replace the plug and give it a kick. If it fires for a second but stops, replace the plug with a fresh one and try again. A dry plug on subsequent inspection means fuel problem. Who rebuilt the engine? Are you sure you have compression? The ignition timing is usually factory set, with limited adjustment ability of the CDI sender. Carb settings are best done for idle, half throttle and full. You can use the old fashioned "engine stop and plug check" or an exhaust gas temperature gauge. Good luck.

Without seeing the bike, all I can suggest is to clean the carb.
Remove the pilot jet and hold it up to the light.
You should be able to see through it.
If you're unsure about the flywheel key, remove the flywheel and check.
Sometimes if the wood rift key shifts when installing the flywheel, it can shear off (break), allowing the flywheel to spin a few degrees and mess up the timing.

Its not the timing, you can not get the timing wrong on a 2 stroke, thats garunteed, unless the key broke. i would say clean the carb. try this, pull the plug, and dump a little bit of MIXED fuel in the cylinder, but just a little, then pull the filter off and hold the throttle wide open and kick it over and see if it fires, if so then its a problem with your carb.
