I currently have a copper IUD (10yr) and I have had it about a year, but I suspect I am allergic to copper and have had pelvic pain since getting it put in. I want something non-surgical and long term and I'm really bad with pills. Oh...and Im too heavy now for the Patch weight guidelines.

The only other option that might be possible is Depo-Provera.

I would recommend getting in touch with your dr to see what their thought is on this possibility is for your situation.

I'm not skinney and i have the Mirena IUD. Plastic though, and i have had is for over a year now. Its good for 5 years, and I'm doing fine. My periods are a little out of whack, but as for effectiveness?? i say 100%!! It's worked for me! Since you already have the copper, then it wont feel any different than the Mirena, But if your not allergic to copper then you should tell your doc. The sooner its out the better if you are. Good Luck!!

I am assuming you don't want to be surgically sterilized?

If not there is the Depo-provera shot which you get 4 times a year at your doctors office. It's hard to forget to get it because they will call you so it's easier than the pill in that sense.

There are also female condoms and sponges as well as spermicide.

Another option is the traditional male condom.
