Like everyone has answered, you could find a lawyer and sue, but you probably won't win. First of all, it's bcz you'll be trying to fight a company policy. Companies have the right to hire someone with a clean criminal background and there's nothing the government/legal system will do about it. Secondly, was this information disclosed on the application? Most companies who perform bkgrnd chks ask about criminal history on their applications. If they did and you didn't disclose the info, and they found out from the bkgrnd chk, you're shown to be dishonest. I know I'll probably get a thumbs down, but if you owned a company that deals w/the public, would you put your company (the one you made through blood sweat and tears) at risk by hiring someone w/an assault record? I think not...

Maybe it is your attitude, or the way you dress for an interview., maybe your education and expectations are not in line with the position. (If you a at most a high school graduate and think you deserve a desk job for 50K a year you are definitely in dreamworld) If you think you can open up your own company and see what these blue suits have to put up with, and by the way let us know how you have done.

I once asked an employer about two employees...one was extremely hardworking, learned quickly, worked extra hours all the time, but had a hard time getting along with others. The other was average in all regards, even a little below average in some respects, but he could get along with anyone; coworkers, staff and customers alike.

The employer told me the one who could get along was far more valuable to him than the hard worker...because he was always having to 'put out fires' and dealing with employees quitting or slowing down from anger generated by the abrasive manners of the hard-worker.

something to think about

Attitude is the main problem if you interview like you write. What is on your resume? Have you done some jobs that got good scores in your education days? Show them off...What jobs are you applying for? Does your education match the job description? Can you do some volunteer work to get experience?

No wonder your not getting a job with your attitude try politics. Try thinking on the employer side of things what he/she wants in the company. I guess what you said isnt you then what you wrote on the above sentences.

not sure what job or how qualified you are but it could be worth joining a charity, work pro-bono build some experience etc while trying for a position..... dont come across as desperate.
Get a reruitment agency to work for you to place you, avoid contacting employers directly let the agency do this for you..... it may work better.... as for racism, i don't believe this is a reality, maybe i'm naive, but i believe good employers want good people....... period. best of luck!

Hey I felt the same way and looked for a home based business for a long time for the fact that I could be home with my children while still earning a decent income. Guess what I finally found it. Go to www.ytb.com/familybusiness and see for yourself. Take 5 minutes and you will be amazed at what you see.
