Their families oppose their love from the beginning. They could have lived a life together but because of their families ongoing feud and other circumstances, they both die! The plan for Juliet & Romeo to escape together to Mantua is foiled because Romeo never receives word that Juliet plans to take the potion that will make her appear dead and she will in fact be in a deep sleep so he kills himself, then she awakes... sees him dead and kills herself.

Well, it's a tragedy because the play ends in death. Romeo thinks Juliet is dead, so he kills himself. Then Juliet, who isn't dead, finds Romeo, happy to see him (this is a great example of irony as well) Then she finds out he is dead, and she kills herself. They both die together, and that's what makes it tragic. It's also romantic in a sense, because they both died because they loved each other so, and now they would be in Heaven together. Romeo and Juliet is an example of many things, not just tragedy, but that's mainly the gist of it.

Their families were great enemies, and all they wanted was to be together. In the end I think Juliet dies, (but she's not really dead) and they Romeo see's her and Romeo kills himself, than Juliet wakes up and see's Romeo dead, so she kills herself.
