Never too young, a baby's skin is more sensitive than anyone elses. If you are going to have the baby exposed to the sun (at any age), use protection.
My daughter got a burn at 1month after only 30 minutes under a shade tree... not even direct sun!
As mentioned above, just be real carefull not to get any on their hands or eyes.

I agree with 6 months, but I too used baby sunscreen on my child earlier, just avoiding hands, eyes and such as was mentioned.
Still, finding appropriate clothing and hats to keep the sun at bay is still a good idea as well. Those little tents mentioned sound like they would be fun as well!

My pediatrician said six months. Until then, just keep the baby out of the sun. They make great little sun huts for babies that will let you enjoy your time outside without endangering your newborn.

I put water babies 45 spf on mine when they were 3 months old. I never take them outside without it.

they are supposed to be 6 months, but some doctors say its okay to use a gentle sunscreen at a younger age, talk to your pediatrician just to be sure

They make baby sunblock products, I used them as soon as 1month old I was just very careful not to get it on their hands(because they suck their fists) or in their eyes.
