Husbands aren't always right, but in this case, yours is. Give him credit - this time!
The word mammal refers to mammory glands which give milk for offspring.

Josh is quite right; the classic definition of mammal is an organism that possesses mammary glands. No other form of life has this structure, although there are a few other organisms that produce 'milk' (most notably pigeons). Sure there are some other defining characteristics, but the name is the name. I'd give Josh the best answer, if it was up to me. He answered your question clearly and accurately, and without substituting a lot of unnecessary detail for the answer to your question. Give your husband a point for being mostly right, but then you can take it away again if you want for being incomplete... On the other hand, perhaps you should give yourselves a point each for being married to each other and go out and happily celebrate somewhere instead of having a contest over who's right.

The full taxonomic defination of a Human is as follows
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Primates
Family: Hominidae
Genus: Homo
Species: Sapiens
Subspecies: Sapiens
So according to our Class we are mammals, that are decendents of Primates (order). Hominidae means Great Apes so we are related to the Apes of the world.
Hope that this helped.

tecnically and scientifically humans are mammals (named for the mammory gland which does produce milk), mammals are also identified by hair and some other things i forget, but religiously I don't like to catagorize people as animals becuase we are not.

uhhh...
not to be rude....but duh
i'm pretty sure everyone will say that we are mammals.
it's basic biology.
i won't go into the whole Kingdom, Phylum Class...etc.
but it's obvious by the basic features such as the mammary glands (breasts in females), gestation, and other common characteristics.
