If you want a "short" synopysis(sp?) of 28 Days Later, read the following. If you don't, skip down till where it says, in all caps, 28 DAYS LATER OVER. Anyway...
28 Days Later opens with a small group of animal rights activists infiltrating a lab with monkeys being forced to watch horrifically violent images. During their attempt to free the chimps, a scientist warns them that the chimps are infected with Rage, but the animal rights activists dismiss this, and let one of the chimps loose. This monkey bites one of the activists, who becomes infected with the Rage virus and infects the rest of the bystanders.
Then, 28 Days Later, a man named Jim wakes up in a hospital from a coma. He wanders around the deserted streets of London, calling for help. He arrives in a church, where he encounters a few Infected. Running away from them, he is saved by Mark and Selena, two survivors of the epidemic. They go to Jim's house so Jim can see whether his parents are alive, and find them having committed suicide. Later that night, two infected attack and bite Mark, and, afraid that at any moment he might turn Infected, Selena kills him.
Jim and Selena continue through London, and see an apartment building with christmas lights hanging up. They go inside, and narrowly escape up the flight of stairs from a small group of Infected, with the help of a man named Frank. After the Infected are killed, the two enter Frank's apartment and find Hannah, his 11-year-old daughter.
The foursome hear a radio broadcast that a group of soldiers has the answer to infection. After a series of Infected encounters, the group makes it to the roadblock that is advertised in the broadcast with a car. Seeing no soldiers, Frank is dismayed, and startles a crow that is picking at a dead body. A drop of blood falls out of the crow's beak and lands in Frank's eye. He quickly turns infected. A group of soldiers who were hiding quickly come out and shoot Frank dead. Jim, Selena, and Hannah are taken to a castle, where the soldier leader, Major West, shows Jim an Infected soldier tied up on a chain. West plans to study the Infected and find out how long it takes for the Infected to die of starvation. After confiding with Jim that West promised the soldiers women, to start a future, Jim is enraged that he was tricked and tries to find Selena and Hannah. He is knocked out.
Jim, along with a sympathizing soldier, are taken into a forest, where the soldier is executed by his comrades. Jim escapes, but leaves the boundary of the castle, so the soldiers presume that he will be caught by the Infected eventually.
Jim breaks back into the mansion, where he sets the Infected soldier loose on an Infection/killing frenzy, and at last, Hannah, Selena, and Jim escape after all the soldiers, including Major West, are either killed or Infected.
The movie ends with a plane flying over the threesome, who have sewn together a variety of cloths to spell out the word: HELLO.
28 DAYS LATER OVER
Short and sweet, there is a virus, called the Rage virus, that causes humans to have bloodshot eyes, and be bent on killing/infecting other noninfected people. They can throw up blood, which, along with saliva, is a bodily fluid that transmits the virus. It takes 10-20 seconds for the symptoms of the virus to become active in a person. The Infected ARE NOT ZOMBIES, and so can be killed in the way any normal human can. They are so bent on infecting others, that they do not focus on eating, and therefore eventually starve to death from lack of food. I've seen 28 Weeks Later, before I saw 28 Days, and I recommend you try to catch 28 Days before seeing 28 Weeks, as it enhances the experience. It's unnecessary though, and I found I could enjoy 28 Weeks without seeing 28 Days. None of the characters from 28 Days are in 28 Weeks, so you don't have to worry about that.
Hope this helps *rubbing sore fingers*!
