I know that they feed on krill or plankton or whatever, but in all seriousness, what would happen if I was dropped in the middle of the atlantic ocean with scuba gear on and one of these big fellows came before me? Is it safe to swim in the middle of the atlantic or pacific ocean? or will something eat you instantly.

a few tidbits on the size of a blue whale. they are enormous! up to 110 feet long, and weigh 181 tonnes (362,000 lbs) 10 people can stand on its tounge comfortably, their heart weighs as much as a vw bug, a child can crawl through their aorta with head room to spare, their tail is 20 feet wide. they are the largest animal to have ever lived on the planet. anything that massive is dangerous to get too close to you. a person can kill a fly by accident without even noticing, the same goes with a blue whale and a human. as far as swimming in the middle of the atlantic, chances are you would be fine, blue whales are endangered and rarely seen. sharks would be your biggest worry, but probably wouldn't bother you either.

To answer your first question:

Yes if a whale mistook you for something else(unlikely) it could swallow you whloe along with a small boat

If you were dropped in the middle of the pacific ocean you would have to worry about bull sharks and tiger sharks
unlike other sharks these sharks have been known to attack humans: Unlike other sharks like the great white these particular sharks won't just take one bite out of you they are likely to tear you to shreds especially if there is a freeding frenzy or a dead animal nearby
If there was a whale with you at the particualr time you have better stay close to it as it could save your life.

Of course still the chances of a shark attacking you are pretty slim.

I guess you have to ask yourself this question:

Do I want to be torn to shreds? or do I want to be saved by whales?

I think the answer is pretty obvious.

The middle of the oceans are almost devoid of fish and wildlife. There are pelagic species travelling through but little lives there unless there is a source of food. Reefs and island provide food sources so you will find sharks there but you would have to be very unlucky to get eaten in the deep ocean.

Whales are intelligent animals and feed on shoals of fish and krill alongside seals, sharks and seabirds without eating them. It is unlikely a blue whale or any other whale would eat you even though it could. The baleen whales would certainly reject you, the toothed whales might have a go if they were really hungry.

Sperm whale could, one was captured with a nearly 200 kg squid, evidently swallowed whole since sperm whale do not chew, in its stomach. But surviving inside one, even with a scuba gear, is unlikely. Breathing requires expanding the lungs, and I would doubt someone could expand their chest against the pressure of a multi-ton whale stomach.

A blue whale could swallow you, but probably wouldn't. I would be more concerned with sharks.
