It is something that can happen, but it needs to be authenticated. You can send it to ANACS to have it authenticated and graded. There site is www.anacs.com for info on how to and how much. You also to get an idea, send a photo or a scan to Ken Potter a well know error expert. His address is ken@koinpro.com. If the coin has a double image (dime and cent) and one is indented into the coin, then it was done outside the mint. A blank dime planchet can fit into the cent cent collar on a press and be stamped on both sides. An already minted dime then struck with the cent dies is usually a fake.
