Merrick, as far as I will always be concerned, is a surname that was derived from the given name Maurice (dark skinned) or Marcus (war-like) and nothing more. I don't think that it's very attractive as a name ... ^_^ though I am glad that you are a boy and not a girl, because it is doable on a boy but would be absolutely horrible on a poor little girl! I was mortified when Anne Rice published "Merrick" ... I just knew a bunch of Anneaholics where going to name their little girl that ... luckily that bullet was dodged, though.
But don't take my judgement too harshly ... I'm not fond of any "ick" names at all.... they strike me as rather harsh to the ear.
