I don't live there, but here's a few recommendations based on a trip I took there several years ago.

Stay at a Bed & Breakfast. Cheaper than several hotels and much more of an authentic experience.

Take in a baseball game at Fenway Park

Eat at the Black Rose restaurant downtown. The clam chowder is excellent.

Tour the campuses of M.I.T. and Harvard

Eat at the home of one of the greatest sitcoms in TV history: Cheers.

Hope this helps and you have a great trip.

Don't do the tour guide things like duck boats and the Common. Although there's not much left of it, try Haymarket on a Saturday morning. Walk around the North End. The cemetery at the Common. Check out the Morgan Memorial Good Will store. Catch a concert outdoors at the Hatch Shell.
