If you can't do it in person, at least do it on the telephone. Going the e-mail or text route is less than cold.....it's as if the person you shared time with is nothing more than a pop up ad.

I don't think ending a relationship with an e-mail, a text, or anything like that is no good. (Not to be offensive) I think if you cared enough about someone to date them in the first place, you should at least have the decency to break up in person.

Some people avoid confrontation as well as commitment in relationships. I am sorry if it happened to you. Paul Simon sang it best:

Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover

The problem is all inside your head she said to me
The answer is easy if you take it logically
I'd like to help you in your struggle to be free
There must be fifty ways to leave your lover

She said it's really not my habit to intrude
Furthermore I hope my meaning won't be lost or misconstrued
But I'll repeat myself, at the risk of being crude
There must be fifty ways to leave your lover
Fifty ways to leave your lover

(Chorus:)
Just Slip out the back Jack
Make a new plan Stan
You Don't need to be coy Roy
Just get yourself free
Oh yeah Hop on the bus Gus
Don't need to discuss much
Just drop of the key Lee
And get yourself free

Slip out the back Jack
Make a new plan Stan
You Don't need to be coy Roy
You just listen to me
Hop on the bus Gus
You Don't need to discuss much
Just drop of the key Lee
And get yourself free

She said it grieves me so to see you in such pain
I wish there was something I could do to make you smile again
I said I appreciate that and would you please explain about the fifty ways

She said why don't we both just sleep on it tonight
And I believe in the morning you'll begin to see the light
And then she kissed me and I realized she probably was right
There must be fifty ways to leave your lover
Fifty ways to leave your lover

I think that breaking up through txt or email is very rude, but over the phone isn't as bad because then the person who is breaking up with you doesn't see you cry. It kind of saves your pride. Usually, breaking up in person is the best way.

i think that it's just rude! people know their manners and breaking up with someone on the phone is just bad! if a person really respects someone else then they would be kind enough to tell them to their face!

i've even had friends that have broken up for one of their other friends and i think that is just as bad!

people should just break up with someone to their face and not on the phone, computer, or have someone else do it for them!!!

I agree with you, in person is always better because that way, I think there can be more of a sense of closure for both parties. Now, if your ex keeps bugging you via e-mail, then you can do it that way.

if it's an online relationship then an email would suffice. but if these two people met and dated then they need to break up face to face.
