The Wii that I have, the light just flashes when you turn it on and then it turns off. Is that normal?

Yes that is perfectly normal. The Nintendo Wii will blink its blue light when it starts up. The blue light will stay on glowing brighter and darker when you have a new message in your Wii's inbox.

Correct, it is normal. It is supposed to flash only once. It will only stay on if there is a message in your mail and the Wii is off and connected to the internet.
