Art Education is the degree you want. Getting a job teaching art is difficult because there are very few positions available especially now that so many schools are dropping their art programs. I would suggest commercial art if you want to work in art. You can always teach at local art center if that's what you really want.
Early childhood is for grade school, not high school.

You should look at Universities that have a School of Art and an Art Education major. You will get a good range of studio classes and learn many types of media as well as Art history. You should not rely on making a living as a painter - a lot of self-marketing goes into that as well as artistic talent. You may make connections at your university if it supports a good art community that will help you with that. A lot of Artists are supported by public grant money so you have to learn your way around applications and assistantships and other sources of income besides sale of work. You can use the college search link below to find Universities with Art majors in the geographic area you want. I majored in Fine Art instead of Art Edu. because it had better studio classes, thinking I would take an education minor and teach, but after a year in college, when I visited my former school and saw how hard a high school art teacher has to work to make kids behave - I dropped that major and found something else. Don't plan on that unless you really WANT to teach.

You choose a college of your choice, take prerequisites, and meet the requirements to get into the Education Program and then you start taking Education classes after you pass the test/requirements of the Education Field to get into the field. You have to choose art in Education program. Warning: they are high competitive fields and harder to get a job in Art, Music, PE, and Health field. You are required to have a Bachelors in Education to teach grades 1-12. Some Private schools have different standards and not all teachers in Private Schools are required to have a bachelors to teach.

You have to take earlychildhoud classes to get a degree but you take art classes with that to be the teacher you want ot be. As if you wanted to teach English than you would take more English classes than others. I am getting an early childhoud degree it is not that hard. Oh yeah you need to be good at art lol.

You have to go to college for an art degree, not a lot of work but you have to smoke a ton of weed. That’s the way it is. Only people I know that have art degrees were the janitors at my college, not joking, its true.
