Great philosophy! For what other reason would football be this great a sport on earth? Two equally numbered but oppositely poised teams of committed players playing according to same set of rules but for their own opposing purposes; trying to take control of the same ball but with opposite goals in view - should we give one ball to each player, and thus resolve the dispute? … no, let’s wait and see what they are really after. The striking fact that the ball that everyone, foes and friends alike, run after as if they need it more than anyone else but they reality that actually no is after the ball itself but after how it could be used, to score gaol, to benefit the team and to harm to opposition. It is very life like. It is rigorous, strong and spirited sport, a friendly fight. No doubt this like nothing else captures human imagination so powerfully.

There is no real philosphy behind football. Philosophy would imply a level of thought and understanding. From what I have seen of proffesional footballers thinking is not exactly their strong point.
The thinking is done by the owners and managers on how to make money out of the sport. They wouldn't give a monkeys cuss if all the players had to play in a basque and high heels if it increased profits.......

The philosophy of football is based in tribalism.
It is a hunt where the kill is symbolised by the ritual celebration of a goal and the homecoming is agian celebrated by the ritual of lifting the kill aloft...(the trophy) and the triumphant return to the village...(the open bus top ride)!
