Yes. Affirmative action is indeed discrimination. Any time race is a factor in any policy, it's discrimination. Race should not be a factor AT ALL! As a country, we have to be completely oblivious to race and our laws have to apply to EVERYONE!!!!

It does no longer hardship me if it became bumped off besides the undeniable fact that it may in all probability have a adverse consequence on society as an entire. I won't clarify, it fairly is particularly obtrusive what could take place to those that are no longer favorite via this society. when I see extra equality occurring interior the job marketplace i'm going to incorporate the disintegration of Affirmative action. till then i'm going to savor the way it advantages people who're no longer of the ordinary public. On a yet another word, I hate it fairly is allowing outcomes. no you may actually include Affirmative action yet use it as a decisive gadget. It does discriminate. it is it fairly is use. it is not meant to earnings the ordinary public and why could it.

Yes, it is. We've become so "politically correct" that the pendulum has swung in the other direction. Now, instead of (god forbid) getting a job based on one's good qualifications, one is getting it based on color. That's why I don't even bother to fill out the optional race section in any application, because I don't want to be denied purely because they have to fill their minority quota. (If you've looked around lately, I don't believe there is such a thing as a "minority" anymore, it's become an excuse).
And what message is this giving to minorities anyway? That they will never have to work or study as hard as others because companies HAVE to hire them. If I were a minority, I would be offended to know that my potential wasn't even evaluated at all, that they only interviewed or hired me because I'm a minority. Wouldn't that be considered reverse racism? It's wrong either way you slice it.

You tell me.
A company needs a computer network administrator. They already have very qualified people in other parts of the company and they are at the limits of affirmative action "guidelines". As a white male with 25+ years experience running computer networks and am a perfect fit for their needs, the government comes in and tells the company they cannot hire me without hiring at least 3 other minority individuals. Consequently, I don't get the job.
Was I descriminated against? Is it fair?
Thanks Libs. You helped take food out of my kids' mouthes for the sake of "fairness". I feel so much better knowing I was being "fair" to some other minority.

Absolutely, and maybe after the next 25 years have passed since and another major affirmative action case makes it to the Supreme Court, Bakke will be overturned for the bad case law it is.
Or maybe the Supreme Court will rule that we've made absolutely no progress AGAIN and suggest another 25 years of the same failed policy.

That's a very good question - one that could be debated from either side.
However, what can't be debated is the extent of discrimination prior to the passing of the affirmative action laws.
It's a complex social issue with no easy answers that will satisfy everyone - only best approaches to help alleviate the concerns as best as possible.

I believe it is. The time for affirmative action has passed. Merit, not race should be the deciding factor.
Affirmative Action is not meant to help blacks because of the color of their skin, but because they deserve compensation for past and continuing injustices. Opponents may criticize the wisdom of how this compensation is meted out, but they cannot question the principle of compensatory damages, which enjoys a long tradition in our society.
I also do not think this mentality of paying reparations is healthy for the US.

Absolutely, if you tilt the playing field in favor of a race even in the name of "equality" you are discriminating against every one else that is not of that race.
Not only is it discrimination but it is a racist practice as well.
