The only authority I can give you is a writer and a court judge of France in the 18th Century. His name was Charles de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu. I am sure that your teacher will recognize the name (LOL). In his book "On the Laws," Montesquieu considered various forms of government.

He concluded that a monarchy was the best. This is because people always know who is the ruler: He is the son of the last king. There is no dispute. But what if the new king is an idiot? No matter: The new king cannot affect matters much, and then he dies.

Consider the old Soviet Union or the new Venezuela or Zimbabwe. How does one know who is the new ruler?

Those are good answers. I would add that democracies allow greater flexibilit and promote creativity. Most innovations come from western democracies because people there have the freedom to try something new.

Another disadvantage of democracy is that leaders can manipulate the people to vote for them and to do foolish things, because in every society there are many stupid people.
