One of the greatest tragedies of all time, "Romeo and Juliet" has tons of comedy in it! Mercutio has a dry wit and is always making fun of someone. The Nurse always looks at situations at a different and often comical perspective. Shakespeare does this to lighten up the mood a bit, make it a little less depressing.

Tradegy can have elements of comedy in it and visa verca. There is a certain form of drama called "tragicomedy" in which a piece can be tragic and comedic all in one. But in general, a tradegy is a tradegy and a comedy is a comedy.

Also in a tradegy, no one has to die. Many people think that in a tragic work, someone has to die. No entirely true.
