Heres the story, let me make it clear and as simple as possible.

I sold my imac on eBay for $999.00
2 Months later paypal contacts me saying that there was a charge back request and i have to pay it. (not even investigating!)
I call them, unfortunately, the credit card used to buy my item was stolen and the persons paypal account was fake, just made up for that one trans.

The person who lost thier credit card got the money from their bank cuz they had an insurance on it, The bank got the money from Paypal, paypal demands money from me. I don't have the item since i shipped it to the fu**ing bast*rd that stole the credit card to buy my imac. Now guess who's the looser!!!?? ME!!!! everyones else benefited right!!!

EVEN the guy that stole the credit card!

After like 20 calls to paypal, with complaints like, why are you just charging me the money without investigating, they reply by: "things like these happen to paypal every day. If we were to investigate all of them, we wouldn't able

Yes, if the buyers address was not confirmed than that is the risk you take. It has happened to me several times. If you shipped it USPS you should be able to contact the postal inspector about the fraud. That is why some sellers have their paypal account so they only ship to confirmed addresses. Because it is backed by paypal seller protection.

Methinks you did not check the seller's feedback comments, or you would have realized that there were NONE.

You've been scammed, and badly. Do you have a credit card attached to your PayPal account ? If so, you may have some recourse with the card holder. There may be insurance against such fraud. If your PayPal account is cash (checking account only), I'm afraid to say you are up a creek without a paddle for your canoe.

Actually this is what happens in all retail transactions with stolen credit cards, the retailer (you in this case) is the one that eats the money in the end.

Paypal DID warn you before the fact that the address was not verified. You had the option of legally backing out of the sale at that point.

You should be able to make a claim on your insurance, give them a call.

well. thats messed up. well i have to agree with the other 2 posters that you eat it. paypal needs a system or they may already have a system that checks with banks on the address with the address and phone number of the credit card.

Plase, be very careful! Do not use paypal, if you use it never link it to any bank account, they'll get money from you!!! Never!! Never have more than $50 in a Paypal account, or better off, never use Paypal, Never get veryfied because that means they'll be able to get money from your account and they'll hijack it!!!!
