Depends on what she drinks. Studies have now proven that light coffee drinking is fine. If she is drinking regular coffee tell her one or two small cups a day or switch to decaf and she will be fine. If it is espresso, I would say just ask for decaf. The tase really isn't different.

For me it was easier to give up caffeine all together than try to limit myself to 1-2 cups per day. Everything I have read says caffeine in moderation is okay. However, if she is used to drinking a lot of starbucks she might want to stay away completely or only drink decaf.
As for the green tea...herbal teas are not good either. I got plain Lipton decaf tea & added honey to it.
I was also a big coffee drinker, but since I have pregnant I haven't liked the taste, so hopefully the same will happen with your wife. Congrats on the new baby!!!

Caffeine causes the blood vessels to constrict. This is why, when you are used to drinking it and then don't, you get headaches - those blood vessels in your head that are used to being constricted because of the caffeine, all of a sudden dilate and irritate the nerves near them.
Similarly, caffeine can constrict the flow of blood in the umbilical cord. Since this is the only method of receiving vital nutrients for growth and development that your unborn baby has, you really want to try to keep that path as unrestricted as possible. Not enough flow back and forth can lead to developmental problems, which can cause miscarriage. Therefore, caffeine intake should be kept to a minimum, though only a single cup per day or switching to decaf is generally thought to be OK.
What the best replacement for coffee would be for your wife really depends on what she likes about it in the first place. Is it the taste? Decaf would give her the same flavor. Is it the act of having a drink to sip on? There are plenty of hot, coffee-like drinks with no caffeine, such as hot chocolate, etc. Is the "boost" she gets from caffeine? If so, she should gradually decrease the amount of caffeine over a period of weeks or days - a few at 3/4 leaded, 1/4 unleaded (decaf), then a few at 1/2 and 1/2, then a few at 1/4 leaded and 3/4 unleaded, and so on, to avoid getting caffeine headaches. She could try cutting it cold turkey, but be prepared for about 2-3 days of absolutely SPLITTING headaches. And, since she is prego, she can't really take anything other than Tylenol for them....
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Your wife can up to 1 8oz cup of coffee a day. She can have decaf (it still has caffiene but not as much). There are plenty of fun starbuck's drinks without caffiene too. As for the tea herbs are a form of some meds so be careful what teas she has and how much. I don't specifically know about green teat but remember she can only have a little bit of caffeine. However if she is gonna kill you for trying to keep her off the caffeine ask the doctor what she can do. I know personally there were those times I just chugged a coke cause I missed caffeine so much and no one could have stopped me. :)

She can have up to 2 cups of coffee a day BUT it's probably better to switch to a pregnancy tea or start drinking rasberry leaf tea which tones the uterus and is great during pregnancy. You can buy these at any grocery store. It's better not to resort to much caffeine while pregnant especially in the beginning. She could also order her Starbucks as decaf.

Green tea-also I'm hooked on soy smoothies. Great protein and fiber and good for baby-check at cold Stone Creamery and like and Smoothie stores. Also Starbucks has (seasonal I think) green tea frappacino thats good. Ask them-they may have some decaf, low cal thing that would be better for her-its such a huge cost too. Maybe check into low cal mocha ice cream- she could make her own "shake"
I make breakfast shakes with a little vanilla coffee mix,soy protein powder and (Silk Very Vanilla)soymilk-and a packet of sweetnlow. Its my before my walk meal and I'm hooked on it-you can drink it warm or cold.
PS-congradulations!

Anything decaffeinated is fine. Depending on the type of green tea, caffeine may also be an issue. If she likes starbucks, get her decaf. Volunteer to go get it for her. She'll never know the difference.

A moderate amount of caffeine should be fine. A triple shot espresso is probably not the best choice, but studies show that three cups of coffee is acceptable, and will not likely hurt the fetus. Comsuming large amounts of caffeine has been associated with low birth weight.
FYI I am 35w4d and my baby is measuring normal, and I still enjoy two cups of coffee a day, and the occasional single shot mocha. I did avoid daily intake for the first trimester, but if her caffeine intake concerns you speak to your Midwife, or Doctor.

it's hard when you're addicted to something to try and give it up. but in the case when you (your wife) are/is pregnant. then i say don't think about yourself. i think pregnant woman are more concsious of what they put into their bodies. i mean i know a lot of ppls who smoke, drink alcohol, soda, coffee, and they still had their babies. but think about the stress that is causing the baby. it's so small and helpless, she can at least try to limit it to 2 or three times a weeks. or maybe try to get addicted to another drink, like water. b/c that will also help with the growing body, and prevention of strectch marks, tell her that, and she might have a change in mind. congrats and good luck.

Decaffeinated drinks are far better than caffeine. Caffeine in some cases has been known to increase the risk of miscarriage. Tell your wife to switch to decaff coffee and/or teas and drink more juices (pasteurized) and lots of water.
