I gotta say that when it comes to life enriching experiences you have to go for it, but you really have to know what your priorities in life are:
My best friend who is single sold her place and went traveling the world for a year. I was behind her choice all the way, I was even jealous a little, but I am married with 3 kids, and would never leave them to go traveling, it is contrary to my priorities.
When I was younger and engaged to be married I met a really cool guy at work, and we got along fine. He quit after a month because he had a crush on me and he couldn't bear to come between me and my man, when I found out I thought about him a lot, and I am grateful to him for respecting me that much. I would never have cheated, but I was also never tempted to either.
You have to really know what your priorities.

The worst option of all of those is living with the notion that you have the potential to regret. Look at life as a learning process. I have 32 years behind me of decisions I've made ... some of which have been positive and some that have been detremental ... heartbreaking. I wouldn't change one choice I've made though because I've chosen to learn from each and every one of those experiences.
So ... to answer your question, I would say that doing something is more important but don't automatically attach "regret" to it.

not doing something and never knowing how it would have turned out...i guess this is worse....i was on a bus about 17 years ago...i was getting off and as i waited for the doors to open something made me turn around an look down the length of the bus...there where lots of passengers but i looked straight at this girl right down at the back....she wasn't overly beautiful but she was beautiful in a different way if you know what i mean....anyway she stared at me and i was staring right back....then the doors opened....as the bus pulled away i looked to the back window where she was sitting and she had turned around and was looking at me...then she gestured with her hand...like "come here"....i stayed where i was and just stared at her until the bus had gone too far and i could not see her...ill never forget her....ever....i have always though "what if she was my sole mate"....and i often wonder if she ever thinks of me the same way....so yes i regret not doing something and never knowing what could have happened......all the time i think this......at least if you do something and then forever regret it you know where you stand for good or for bad....you can get on with your life and if it was bad never let it happen again....but not knowing something is worse in my view

A lot depends on the "something". Having sex with your Jessica Simpson look a like secretary and regretting it when your wife leaves you would be bad.
Not taking a ride in a NASCAR test lap because your afraid you'll crash is being too cautious.
Ask yourself, is the risk worth the reward?

Doing something and possibly regretting it, otherwise we'll never learn.

If you've thought about what it is you want to do, there shouldn't be any regrets. Live a life free of "what ifs" and 'if onlys!"

So long as the "something" wouldn't hurt any one (myself included), it's better to do it! : )
We can always look back & say 'if only I had done...' - if we actually get out there & do stuff, we can truly say 'at least I tried!'

Carpe diem, man! BUT don't hurt innocent people in the process.
Best of luck.
