I've always wanted to visit the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose. It was built by the wife of Winchester, the inventor of the repeating rifle of the same name. She was convinced his fortune was cursed by those who had been killed by the rifle over the years, and dedicated herself to spending every last penny of it in the construction of the house. There are dead ends, bizarre features and abberrant, seemingly random construction everywhere. It's apparently a very large house, and easy to get lost in if you're not careful or stray from your group.

For an bit of an off road adventure, check out the many, many ghost towns they have in California. The state is literally riddled with them from the days of the gold rush. This is one of my favorite adventures - just be conscientious that some of these may actually be on private property. Going during the day is eerie enough... but seeing one at night can really get your heart racing.

I've provided some links below.

There is book written by Barbara Smith called "Ghost Stories of Hollywood" I believe it's with LonePine publishing. It lists many hotels, cemetaries, and other locations that are haunted such as the Hollywood sign itself and the cemetary where Marylin Monroe was buried. Don't bother with Disney. The people there are not supossed to talk about the ghosts.

There ae two two places in San Diego. One is a house in Old Town where they have ghost tours at night. The other is the best, it is Hotel Del Cornado. It is very large wooden resort built in the early teens. Very creepy.

Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz
Winchester House in San Jose

But if you don't live nearby - don't bother traveling long way to see them. They are not that great of entertainment.
