Colette Lala:
When I read your reason for the birds. I heard Nigel the pelican from Finding Nemo in my head say "fish gotta swim, birds gotta eat" LOL

I think that the crabs shell is strong enough to survive being thrown overboard.

I adore this show, but it kills me when they're tallying up the final counts and all the 200 lb men are stomping all over the live crabs in the hold. The crabs have to remain alive to be counted right? If they can survive some burly fishermen stomping on them, I'd think the smaller ones could survive a little throw overboard.

Birds: Well, they eat the fish that surface I would think. I've never been to the Bering Sea, but birds are all over the place in the Pacific and Atlantic.

Just for the record, Sig became my favorite when he went on the Daily Show with John Stewart. The other captain with the earring who cries when the people die is awesome as well. How funny is his son (the lightweight - I think his name is Josh, not the other bratty a**hole)? That kid is pure personality. I adore him!

Blake is a pu**y. Ugh I can't stand him! He used to be good looking, but every show he gets uglier and cockier and more ignorant.

No it does not kill them, if it did it would be against the law to do so. The birds always follow boats, and probably the old bait is thrown back to the ocean, so the birds have larned this and wait for the meal!

It kills the little crabs and then the birds eat their floating corpses.
