I have just inherited an older craftsman ridning mower, I have gotten it running, and jsut need to replace a throttlr control spring on the carb. I am having a problem figuring how to lower the blade height or if it is working. I have the knob to turn left/right to lower and raise the blade, but it doesnt make a difference. Is there a certain setting everything has to be in to make this adjustment?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again

OK, Thanks for the info so far, now color me stupid here for a moment. I've never owned a riding mower before. There is a lever that raises the deck up and down. I thought when it was up the blades were spinning, and down it stopped, maybe I have it too low and the blades arent spinning at all?? Theres is also an engage and disengage lever.I feel like a complete tool here so all of your answers so far have been really helpful.

A Craftsman Rider has adjustable levers on the deck itself.
You adjust them to cut lower, but kleep in mind that if it gets too low it can cause you blades to stop turning and burn your belt up.

Normally, the deck rises or lowers when the control is used. My mower engages the blades when I use a lever to set the height. I had to use the leveling holes on the wheels to get the grass to be cut lower and the blades to engage.

I did some checking, you have a 38" cut, 11 HP Craftsman tractor. If you go to Sears.com and click on "parts and service" then key in your model number, you can get parts diagrams etc. If you key in a 1-word description of what you want, key in "owners" and the owners manual ordering info. will come up. I suggest that you order an owners manual. You can also do this at 1-800-341-2516, just give the operator your model number and (for a nominal charge) they will ship you an owners manual. BTW, the owners manual ordering info is 106738X (I assume that's the owners manual part number).
