Unlike cars, there is no option to take an L.G.V. test in a vehicle fitted an automatic, semi-automatic or Tiptronic-type gearbox.

The V.O.S.A. regulations require you to use the full range of a manual gearbox, in order to demonstrate your ability to operate any large goods vehicle an employer may need you to drive.

I wouldn`t have thought so, but good god man, think of how that will look on your cv. Everyone else is getting their licence on a manual and you turn up with it on an automatic. have you taken the easy way out. Not only that, but it will limit you in terms of where you can work. I have a full manual PSV licence and both my pal and my nephew have both past their PCV test on manuals in the last two years. My pal because he owns an old bus, but my nephew was put through it by his current employer who although currently with a fleet of semi and full automatics, likes his drivers to have manuals in case they purchase some manual gearbox coaches in the future.

You have to take an LGV test in a standard manual gearbox vehicle, but you can drive a triptonic vehicle which like a formula 1 car, has a 'rocker' gear change system
