I think the urge to power is a character flaw, and certainly, by the time one is able to get themselves elected, they have powerful friends of one kind or another. But in the case of the Congress, it's aggravated by the rules - a freshman Senator or Representative has no seniority, and even the choice of committee assignments is based on their willingness to "play ball" with the senior party members. Say you're from a farm state, and you want to extend the subsidies that are coming up for renewal - someone from New York offers you his vote, and the votes of his clique, if you'll back his anti-terrorism bill. Then a senior member from Alaska offers you HIS vote, if you'll vote for the "bridge to nowhere." The pharmaceutical lobby offers three more votes, if you'll vote against meds from Canada. But the ones who are under pressure to trim the pork oppose farm subsidies, so you've also got to court the oil lobby to muster enough votes to pass. Now the Texans have their hooks in you...

I think it depends on the politician, but I'd say that for most corrupt politicians, they start losing sight of their original goals after they get into the system. Once they're surrounded by all this corruption and underhandedness, they slowly yield to it. of course not all politicians are corrupt, there are those that are sincere and stay to their original plans and goals of serving the people. Unfortunatley, that doesnt apply to the majority of politicians.

Politicians attempt to make people vote for them via mendacity to them . they are asserting they are going to do each and all of the flaws the persons desire him to do yet as quickly because of the fact the guy gets into workplace he gets boastful and shuts off the commonplace public in the present day. Or each now and then politicians desire to play the "race card". Or they could even attempt to get religious to learn a definite non secular team's vote. Politicians in the present day are putting a bad occasion for the adolescents in in the present day's era. Its unhappy that on the age of sixteen (my age) I witness plenty political corruption. you will think of that they had attempt to set a competent occasion for persons my age. Makes me unhappy to make sure what's going to ensue to this usa as I advance older.

i may be naive but i honestly believe some actually take office with the intent on making a difference. unfortunately the rules of the game don't allow them to and ultimately for their own survival they decide to play the game and all scruples go out the window.

Before being elected they want to change the world, when the go to Washington or wherever, They find they have to toe the line, and to make it easy for them they get their wallets filled, or maybe find their refrigerator loaded with money.

I don't think a politician is honest ever - if they were, they wouldn't lie to their constituents, lie to their families and lie to those politicians who are already in office.

If they have enough money to get themselves on TV then they're already corrupt.

Both. Depends on whether they were raised in wealth and power or whether they worked their way into wealth and power.
