Isn't alcohol just a legal drug? Other than the obvious answer of breaking the law; whats the difference? People die on ecstasy. People die on alcohol. Week in, week out people brawl and get aggressive on alcohol. Anyone who has been to a club where ecstasy is the norm knows that fighting and aggression just doesn't happen at these places. Am I wrong? Discuss.

Biggest difference is, alcohol numbs and ecstasy exaggerates. Both can be described as uppers in a sense though alcohol can either take you high or the extreme low. There are definitely way too many deaths that are alcohol related no question as for ecstasy, I have known about 2 actual cases that had to do with overdose.

It is pretty disappointing that this site is supposed to be about answers. There are a lot of people on this board that don't know jack sh*t about drugs and simply re-state corn fed information, half assed assumptions and make their biasness so blatant.

The only reason ecstasy is still illegal is because the big Pharm companies out there already have similar drugs to prescribe and make a profit out of this (anti-depressants, prozac, etc.) On another note, a number of war vets from Iraq and Afghanistan are being clinically prescribed Ecstasy to help treat PTSD. go figure...

you're half right, alcohol is just a legal drug and is responsible for many brawls that break out, and for many illnesses. But if people keep taking other drugs, and society just lets this happen, then what is the limit? The thing with drugs like ecstasy is that people react to it in hugely different ways to it, many people have died after only trying it once. Death only really occurs as a result of hugely excessive amounts.

but in answer to the main question, it does not make you a worse person, i dont think it even makes you a bad person. unless of course you get addicted and resort to crime to get your next fix.

i dont think that youre wrong, granted some drugs are worse than others, but i would believe that alcohol is less deadly than ecstasy. i mean u gotta drink a shitload to kill yourself....but then again......i dont know really, i mean all you really have to do is choke on your own vomit to die from alcohol.....thats how jimi hendrex died, and john bonhm....never mind forget what i said. no i would imagine that youre prolly right, if you look at it from that way, and now that i say it, another way to die from alcohol is getting in a crash or sumtin like that. but, ya, fighting is gonna happen everywhere you go, even if the people are sober.....***** we had all kinds of fights and aggression when i was in high school. so i think that you are making a good point here. even tho ecstasy is looked on as being worse than alcohol, it doesnt neccsacerly (sp...i murdered that) mean that it is

You are completely right, Jojo. The reason alcohol is legal isn't because its safe; its because its been a part of mainstream society and culture for so long. If it was being introduced as a new drug today, it would certainly be illegal.

I have a lot of respect people who go through life 100% drug free. But my personal peeve is those people who claim to be completely "anti-drugs", are horrified at the thought of smoking cannabis, pass negative judgment on ecstasy users, but just love to get drunk every weekend. If this is you, wake up, you're doing drugs too!

In fact, Jojo, it may interest you to know that science agrees with us, not them. According to leading British drug experts, if we used a drug classification system that reflects the actual harm of drugs (and not their social stigma), alcohol is far more dangerous than ecstasy, with alcohol being classed as the 5th most harmful drug (coming in shortly after heroin, cocaine, and barbiturates), while ecstasy comes in at the tail end of the list as the 18th most harmful.

I strongly suggest that you follow the link cited in my source to view a list of popular drugs scientifically ranked according to the harm they cause.

no you're not wrong. i actually seen something on tv about drugs one time saying back in the 60s that they recommended people to try ecstasy because it mellowed you out. just like maryjane i just saw on the history channel how it use to be legal around the great depression time but because america wanted the mexicans(claimed that they brought most of it to the US) to go back to mexico after the depression they made it illegal. i agree with you just don't get caught with any. i had a science teacher tell me one day if enough people want maryjane to be legal it would happen probably the same goes with any other drug. people just scarred to do anything about it probably, cause half the time you spend more time in jail for a simple possession charge than for rape or murder which is just wrong.

Both are dangerous chemicals. However ecstasy does way more long term damage per dose compared to alcohol. Decreases the total amount of seretonin your brain can produce. Basically you will not be able to reach your previously highest feeling of happiness naturally.

Anything, whether its X or booze, can be bad for you (yeah, I'm going to be THAT guy). If you're looking for someone on here to say its okay to take X, then you're going to find it. Same goes for the booze. Personally, I used to drink too much, and hated not having control of myself. Just don't let the stuff you take, make you the person you are. By the way, this vid is funny:

Taking anything that alters your state of mind is something you need to rethink.

Drinking is not illegal, but drinking and driving is, not to mention going to prison for involutary manslaugher if you casue the death of another.

Ecstasy is still illegal, and it's not by any means the "norm"
If it's given to someone who is not aware of receiving it and is harmed/violated it's definately wrong.

If the people you hang around with, accept this as the only way to be able to have "fun" then you must be hanging around with the wrong crowd. What you choose to do with your life is your right, however when you involve someone else, and they are victims, then you have crossed the line.

Good luck.
