do the males and females have to be similar or can you breed any female with any male?

You can breed any pair you like, but what you get as a result may not look like either parent. Some combinations are fairly attractive, others not so much. It's best to keep guppies in a 1 male to 2-3 female ratio if you're trying to breed them. Otherwise, the male harrasses a single female too much.

Any two will do, do you have more than 1 female? It is a good idea to have a couple of females for one male, your male guppy is very active when it comes to breeding and may stress your female out, if there are not any other females for him to breed with! Good luck!
