If you are a American citizen AND reside here then you can obtain a "Consular Report of a Foreign Birth of a US Citizen" at the US embassy in the country of birth (for a fee). Both parents and the child must appear when the app is submitted. When this document is issued (within hours) it is the same as a birth certificate and the child is considered a natural born US citizen. This is the least onerous way to prove/document citizenship. Also, US embassies treat US citizens very well and will be courteous and friendly. Anything else gets very bureaucratic.

Yes, as long as one of the parents is an American Citizen. But you have to go to the American Consulate or American Embassy to register the child first and both parents have to sign. The child will most probably have a dual citizenship (the American one and maybe the one from the Country where he or she was born, if that Country allows it.... this is the case of Mexico). Since Mexico changed its laws a few years back, a person can have a dual citizenship for life, but some Countries are allowing 5 citizenships.

It wouldn't work for cultural reasons. For most of the third world it is expected that the elders are looked after by their offspring as there isn't state pensions etc, so if you want someone to look after you in your old age the only way to do it is by having children. As infant mortality is high in the third world you have have to have a large amount of children to ensure some of them survive. It is catch 22. Additionally how do you propose the prevention of children being born? Most of these women are uneducated and an attempt to a mass sterilisation campaign would be met with hostilities from local elders and traditionalist, (let alone the catholic church - which plays a massive part in African life). Sending money to Africa will always only be a short term fix - but it is the best fix we have at the moment (in my opinion), it needs more than just food, it needs education, it needs the governments of these countries to reform and make changes internally, it needs the UN to grow some teeth and stop the wars, the rebellions, the corrupt leaders etc. I agree these adverts are depressing, but we have to ask ourselves how we can make a difference - sending food is not enough for long term change.

From what I understand, your child, if you are on the birth certificate, will be considered a dual citizen. When he or she reaches the age of 18 years, he or she will have to choose citizenship of one country or the other.
In some cases, an adult person can have dual citizenship, but usually not in the case of a third world country.
Good luck! Congratulations on the birth of your child!

Ye sif you are listed as the father on the birth certificate. The US grants citizenship to all children of citizens. The baby may also be a citizen of the other conntry (duel citicenship) but that depends on the laws in the other country.

The child will be a citizen of that country but also become a citizen of your country if you bring the child home with you. It's called dual citizenship.

Yes, but if you would like them to come live here, it may be a long wait before the mother can come. The child should be able to come immediately.
