Okay, so the year is 2012 and a new President has been elected, vowing to turn America around and put our country on top of the world- literally.

He (or she) asks Congress to declare War on several countries in an attempt to gain complete and total domination over the World.

You are a member of Congress, and the deciding vote comes to you.

What do you do?

Please note that this is all highly hypothetical and should not be taken seriously in anyway.

I vote to authorize.

Better we dominate the world than anybody else. We're nice dominant people.

I think Canada first (or second, after Iraq). They're right next door, they have lots of French people (easy to beat in war, likely to surrender), and lots of oil.

Then Venezuela. Get rid of Chavez, free the people, and Venezuela has lots of oil also.

Then Cuba, again, just to get rid of a murderous thug dictator, free the people, and get all those great cigars, as well as a vacation destination.

Then, on to Europe! France, all we have to do is show up, and they'll appease us as fast as they can.

Then Italy, as a jumping off point to the Horn of Africa, where we can clean out all the Islamofascists. Holland just because, the Red Light District, and good marijuana.

Once we secure plenty of oil supplies, on to the Middle East!!

We'll have the world whipped into shape in no time. What a great idea.

i vote no and commend the president for asking congress to actually declare a war rather than asking for an authorization to use military force (AUMF- passed 9/18/2001) which is much more dangerous to civil liberties, obviously.

I would vote 'no' because his (or her) plan does not make sense. Why do you need to declare war on countries in order to be literally on top of the world. To be on top of the world - literally, you just need to control all satellites orbiting the earth.

Your hypothetical IS the Dumbya record. If a member of the Senate put a firm arm on my House delegation and demand a bill of impeachment. If in the House co sponsor such a bill.
Down with Dictator Dumbya!!!

Vote no unless our freedoms are in jeopardy. We are 1 country and should remember that. We aren't the rulers of the world and need to stop thinking that way. I would vote no.

I would not allow the president to declare war becasue he/she wants to dominate the world like Hitler did.

I vote no. Not because I am a pacifist but a war for domination? We did that twice in our history, that is enough.

Imperialism NEVER works, so I vote NO! Every imperialistic empire in history has failed and nothing would make me think we would be any different.
