Yes, but they weren't many because it's so impractical. Most of the catcher's action will be with:
1) right handed batters (making the throw to 2nd obstructed)
2) 1st base (the catcher would have to turn his body completely to the side to get a good throw off)
This is why teams absolutely drool over lefty hitting catchers (Joe Mauer, anybody?).

Yes, there have been several.
In 1958 Dale Long of the Cubs played two games as a left-handed catcher.
In 1980 Mike Squires of the White Sox played 2 games.
The most recent was Benny Distefano of the 1988 Pirates when he played three games as a left-handed catcher.
All three of these players were primarily first basemen.

Jack Clements played the most years 17. There were 32 in all. Clements played 1,043 games the next most was Sam Trot with 272
