That is an EXCELLENT idea !
It is exactly what my mother needs. She lives alone in S.A., in a place for elderly folks with very limited incomes (mostly just Social Security). She will probably have to give up driving altogether in the very near future, so having someone to run errands and drive to doctors' appointments and such would be of immense value. And the friendship might be even more important.
I no longer have the financial resources to provide the kind of support you describe (and I live much too far away to do it myself) so your kind of service would be more than welcome.
I sincerely hope you are able to successfully implement your service. Even if my mother doesn't benefit from it, there are plenty of others who will -- and that alone makes it worthwhile.

My Mother in-law lives with us, and the type of service you describe is in fact; an ongoing business.
Although we have never used it, a Visiting Angel certainly sounds like it would be good business, especially if you were good at it.
I suggest you do your research, check out the competition locally, find out about rates and types of service and get going. The answer you are looking for isn't here, it's in your business sense.
Good Luck.

Yes, it is a valuable service. Here in our area, we have many private agency services, such as Visiting Nurse, Birth and Beyond (for both new parents, and elderly), Families First, and many more government services.

I have worked in retirement homes and I think it would be welcolmed; there are people are frustrated because they can't get what they need, or get to where they want to go. Most of them do have buses that take them to the store, but it's not always where they want to go and a lot can't ride a bus. They usually have a driver who takes them to Dr. Appts. and such but they have a limited area too. I am just not sure of all the legalities in such an operation.

you might want to contact your local area on aging, welfare department, senior services action center or some other government agency who could answer your question easier than here. I am totally unfamiliar with the services and logistics of the San Antonio area.

Running errands for people is a service that works effectively when the people being served have busy lives and are rather well-to-do.
The challenge is marketing. How do you get your potential customers to know what you can do, and trust you?

This type of service is great, but what if they can't afford to pay you? All people need this regardless of their ability to pay. But why would someone pay for friendship? That should be given freely, as to a lonely senior, friendship is priceless.

This service has been around for several years now.
The companies that provide these service advertise all over, including your local phone book.

This is the kind of service that any district would welcome!
But (sorry to be a grouchy here) it woud have to be totally accountable to the authorities to be safe.

It's a wonderful idea, maybe you can approach some senior care agencies with it or some mental health agencies that have senior programs.
