Then they leave their wife for another woman and complain about alimony? It is not like she has a 401k she's been contributing to.
Seriously? I have heard too many men say their wife is not going to work, her place is "in the home" and she'd "better" have my meals ready for me when I get home. Then they leave their wife for their secretary, and then complain about alimony and child support.
Makes no sense to me.

Oh...to those who wondered, it didn't happen to me. I just noticed a number of men here on Y!A complaining about alimony.
I'm happily married and work outside the home while my husband stays at home with our kids. He's an angel!
I agree about being responsible for yourself; I always advocate women getting a college degree before marriage in case of death or divorce. But I noticed here that a lot of wives say their husbands won't "allow" them to go to school or work.

Jerks like that will take it up the rear in the court system... alimony, child support... he can complain all he wants, but who cares? He did it to his own miserable self. He gets what he deserves.
You should take delight in knowing that whether he likes it or not, justice is being served.
I hope this didn't happen to you, but if it did, you have my best wishes in moving on to a better future.
BTW, I want my wife to stay home, but not to be my slave, rather to be the nurturer for my children. It's a division of labors sort-of. I work hard to provide for the family, she works hard to nurture the family. Should she have to work, however, then we would both have to share in the chores at home, and I don't think it's too bold of a statement to make that it stretch us both very thin and could easily drain on the emotional health of the family.

Is this something that you or a loved one are dealing with or is it just a rant. I agree that if the situation is as you have described it, wherein a husband forces a woman to be a home maker and only a home maker then commits adultery or cheats I'd say absolutley to allimony because he has crippled her abillity to compete in the work force, and removed his canopy of providence. however if she is able bodied and has the abitlity to work i don't think that PERMANENT alimony is right. Its like child support. you help the other with the cost of raising and providing for them, once they can do that on their own neither parent should continue to support them just so they can do anything without haveing to work for it. the same should apply to divorced couples. Its also important to realize that if there leaving their wife for a NON LEGIT reason its already wrong and makes no sense!

I believe that men who want there wife's at home only want it in theory. The want to be the "King" and be served but then
the loose respect and become unappreciative of the wife. The think that they sit home all day and do nothing when the truth of the matter is the mother and housewife is the hardest job no paid vacation or days off. Holidays are double time. Woman need to work so they are not in the position of being left holding the bag. Today you need more then one income in order to live.

Everything in life is a choice. If you choose to stay home and raise children and keep house, more power to you, but I would suggest having some marketable skill that will allow you to be gainfully employed if need be. To have children without this is unwise and foolish. Whether or not it makes sense to you, ultimately, we are all responsible for ourselves.
Don't blame the men. We all have minds of our own, and it's fine to stay at home, but do yourself the honor of being able to take care of your responsibilities if your relationship doesn't work out.

That's a man for you! He wants his wife to stay home and wait on him hand and foot. but then he also wants to play like a single guy and have affairs and end up with another woman. But all hell would break loose if the shoe was on the other foot and the wife was the one who had the affair!

Sorry but your question doesn't make much sense either....Alimony is appropriate in some cases but more offen then not women take advantage of it to use and rob a man of everything he has worked for! For every man that "complains about alimony" there is a woman who cheated on her husband, is shacked up with some other man, AND collecting half of his income!

all men are childish and stupid! Some men want their woman to stay home & take care of the house and kids. I think that is so they can feel macho because they will then be the only one in the household bringing home the money. Then they can use the guilt trip, "without me, you wouldn't have anything"

Because men are like babies. They wan't their wives (mothers) to stay at home and baby them. I would never do that to a woman and i hate the idea of a housewife. I am a guy by the way.

I work full time more than my hubby and the house is always clean. Without being asked. Its wife's job to please her husband. A man should only work and protect his family and respect his wife, if he does all that then the wife does the rest.
Thats what is wrong with "women" these days think that they are owed something.

It falls under the concept of the "starter wife" (which is a stupid idea in anyone's book). Any man who honestly thinks that way gets what he deserves
