okay I had my son circumcised like a week and a half ago (he's two weeks old) and it looks like it's all healed now, but the head of his penis is a purple tint, is that normal? or should I be worried? He doesn't seem like he's in any pain or anything, and it healed up nice, just the color is bothering me and my husband. I already called my doctor and am waiting on her reply, but I figured that I couldn't hurt to see if anyone on here knew the answer. Thanks!

It is normal...it will heal pinkish! As, long as the skin around it is even and lays nice it should be fine. Just keep it nice and clean til completly healed!

Unfortunately you didn't do any research and decided that mutilation of your son is "normal."

Would you ever have your eyelids removed? NO...it helps keep your eyes moist and clean, right?

How about we remove your breasts because you MIGHT develop breast cancer later on, or something else...MAYBE.

OR we could just start removing all the little baby girl's labia and clitorus' as well, so none of the boys and girls will have ANY sexual pleasure at all! That would be AWESOME!!

*scoff* bad move to let someone strap your baby down while he screams and chop off the single most important part of what makes him a boy. Good one! And for an even more up close and personal look, click the last link. You should be able to stomach that just fine, right?

Its perfectly normal. Essentially, at birth the glans is an internal organ and has a deep purplish tone. Boys who have not been circumcised keep that hue. As his glans starts to keretanise it will become less purple.
But you are right to get it checked out for your own peace of mind. I'm sure he'll be fine and will enjoy the benefits of having a circumcised penis.

You just mutilated your child's genitals. It is perfectly normal but it will take time to heal.

Anyway, he has now lost the highly sensitive foreskin. Also, his glans will dry up and become course. Overall, sensitivity of his penis will be reduce by 75%. [ http://www.nocirc.org/touch-test/bju_6685.pdf ]

It can and does result in very significant scaring.
It can and does result in sexual problems later in life.

Circumcised males have a much higher rate of sexual dysfunction.

A lot of the information perpetuated about it preventing diseases is false.
The study that you are less succeptible to aids if you are circumcised is flawed. Here is a discussion of the report and its methodology by "Doctors Opposing Circumcision": http://www.doctorsopposingcircumcision.org/info/HIVStatement.html . A condom is still required to prevent transmission of STI's.

The word "normal" no longer fits in this situation.

The words scar and mutilation have taken it's place.

Who cares what color it is? Big deal! What is important is that when he matures and takes a mate he will have to push his scar into her naturally perfect vagina; she will feel it, he will have to use his imagination ( I know, I am "circumcised too)

Its because its not keritinized yet. The skin is still alive with nerve endings. Don't worry, these will deaden and the glans will fade to the dry pink husk circumcised men have to live with every day.

Shame on you. You're not even supposed to see the glans on an infant.

It's totally normal, as long as the scar is healing well, I wouldn't worry about it. Mention it to your doctor next time you're there so they can take a closer look.

No, it's NOT normal.

The glans of the penis is meant to be a moist area - a mucous membrane that is covered by a thin skin for protection.

You've opted to have that protective skin amputated, and now are seeing what is meant to be an internal organ on your child.

It's not HEALING, it's SCARRING.

Relax, it's perfectly normal to have a purplish hue when done. It will change with time to a more "normal" looking skin tone.
