Spybot is recommended by Consumer Reports a very trusted organization.
But there are sites that look like Spybot and are scams.
This link will take you to the correct one.

Remember to update it at least once a week, the updates are free also.
Hope this helps

AVG Anti-Spyware is a much better anti-spyware than Spybot.

However, no single anti-spyware can detect and remove all spyware, so the use of 2 (or more) is recommended.

Instead of Spybot, I would download and alternate scanning with one of these free anti-spyware /adware programs.

SUPERAntiSpyware:

A-Squared:

Ewido (Now called AVG Anti-Spyware) do not download AVG anti-virus.

All the above have a free edition, that's probably what you will want to download.

The owner of Spybot Search & Destroy is a personal friend, and the program was designed by him and his student in an University in Germany. Myself I consider the software pure junk and good for nothing then finding cookies.

Antispyware I use three. You can only use one antivirus program or you will have serious conflict with your system.

Superantispyware, known to find what all other anitspyware will miss. http://www.superantispyware.com

A2Squard Malware out of Austria. Download their free version and you will be protected from, rogue dialers, worms, malware, keyloggers, trace spyware and rouge cookies.

http://www.emsisoft.com

AdAware SE Personal out of Sweden. This antispyware company has been around since computers became commerical. In June of this year they will come out with a brand new version. Right now it is beta testing. Download their free home for personal use. http://www.lavasoft.com

All of these program I have listed for you use little or no resources.

Personally, I have ran AVG, Spybot Search and Destroy and Lavasoft Adaware. Running the three of them on a regular basis helps to keep my system clean and free of most spyware which in turn increases the speed.

It would be a good idea to have both because spybot specializes inadware and spyware and avg in antivirus.

Yes, you can have 3 or 4 anti-spyware programs. If one program does not catch a spyware, then a different one might catch it. It does not hurt to have more than one. When it comes to anti-virus and a firewall, it is best just to have one of each of those programs, because they might clash with each other..Good Luck..

Get both. It doesn't hurt to be over-protected. Just make sure that you never, ever try to run two different anti-VIRUS Programs at the same time. They will each detect the other's actions as viral activity, and your computer will be seriously screwed up.
