Ok, I admit that I have been using the handicap stalls in the washrooms since my baby bump started making it more of a challenge for me to stand up unassisted and the bars are just so handy. The funny thing is that the actual handicapped people in my work place have no problems with me using the stall (I asked both of them LOL), it's the normal people who stare at me me and make rude comments.

Do you use the handicap stalls? Do you think we should be allowed to? Or am I completely in the wrong using the stall that is comfortable and makes me feel safer since my balance is completely off?

I use them too! I don't really give a hoot who looks at me funny, because do I really want that same person helping me up with my panties around my ankles in a tiny little stall 2 minutes after I go in to the regular (non-handicapped) one, just so they wouldn't look at me funny? No... I think not... It's fine, just let them get over it. Who really cares. You're looking out for safety of yourself and your baby while your balance is off.

In my 33 years of going to the bathroom, I have never been in the bathroom at the same time as a person that needed the handicap stall. Thats weird now that I think about it. I use the handicap stall all the time in public just like a reg stall. No one has ever looked at me funny. I feel that proper etiquette would be for a handicap person to get to go to the front of the line and be the first to go in when that stall came available.

I take my daughter in a handicapped stall every time she needs to go. It is impossible to fit me and her in the same stall and sill be able to help her. Honestly, I got a handicapped sticker for my car at my college when I was preggo. They issued their own handicapped pass but I just could not walk from the back of the parking lot with all of those books at nine months. I have never stopped a handicapped person from being able to use the stall as far as I know. Anyway, this may seem rude and I am not trying but..... Why can't a handicapped person wait their turn just like everyone else?

I used the handicap stall. It's safer, especially the further along you get. Most handicapped people that I have run into (while walking out of the stall) understand completely. Worry about them, not the other stupid people who have probably never had this "problem".

I also wish grocery stores and shopping malls would put up Pregnancy parking spaces, maybe next to the handicap parking places to help us out. That walk can kill you!

What? That's weird that other people stare at you or make rude comments. If I am in a line waiting for a bathroom and the handicap stall is the first to open up, that's the one I go for. I have never heard of awkwardness towards using a handicap stall. huh? It would be funny if you said back to the person who was either staring or commenting "At least I wash my hands?" It will just make them feel awkward because they think, that you think they don't wash their hands. Childish, but kinda funny. haha

Personally, I believe that it doesn't matter what other people think, but I realize that not everyone believes this.
I honestly think you should do what you feel comfortable with. You are a mother even though your baby hasn't been born yet, and your job is to protect your baby. If that means using a handicap stall to have the bars to help you stand then that is what you should do! It doesn't matter what other people think, they are not the ones who are pregnant. You went above and beyond and asked the handicapped coworkers if they minded. You didn't have too but it was very considerate. It's not against the law and it is not wrong for you to use that stall.
Don't worry. Just ignore the other people and you do what is comfortable for you.
Good luck and congrats!

I have done that. I dont think there is anything wrong with it. I bet the women giving you the dirty looks have never been pregnant. They probably have on clue how hard it can be to just get up off the toilet. I have found that the handicap toilets even sit higher up than the normal stall toilets. That makes it easier to get up also.

Keep on using them as long as the actual handicapped in your office dont mind I see no problem with it.

First of all your pregnant so you have some handicaps whether we like to think so or not.
Tell the people who have something to say its like 3mins your in their if a handicap person needs to use that stall you will be done in minutes anyways. That's like a handicap person using a regular stall and people giving them a dirty look. Who care go to the bathroom and get out no matter what stall you use.

I completely agree with you. Although pregnancy isn't a handicap, it makes life a lot harder. I think that pregnant women should get special treatment, like closer parking (they have it at the Babies R Us and the Walmart here, although there isn't really a good way to enforce it.) I used the handicap stalls when I was pregnant and sometimes I still do when I have my daughter in a sling as it is really difficult to balance (and fit) in a regular stall!

I have to admit, I use the handicap stalls almost everytime I use a public bathroom. A) For some reason they always seem sooo much cleaner B) When you have to take a 3 year old potty and try to fit inside a single stall where the door opens IN, it is almost impossible to fit two people in there. C) The handrails are a blessing especially since I am usually scared to actually sit ON the toliet in a public bathrrom so I use them to just hover over it. Oh and please- ALWAYS wipe the seat with a little toliet paper when you are done....it's just more sanitary that way! ;)
