Unfortunately, the FBI crime statistics don't back up your assertions. Border cities with high immigrant populations like San Diego and El Paso (which is also one of the poorest cities overall) actually have some of the LOWEST violent crime rates in the country as compared to other areas with relatively low immigrant populations like Detroit and Atlanta, which are some of the most dangerous places to live.
Most of the crime that does occur in the border region actually takes place on the Mexican side, not always on US soil.
And why should they have to "assimilate?" To what? Listening to annoying punk rock or country sh*t-kicker music with Chinese-made American flags tearing off of their beatup Fords? Hah! Not even most Americans would want to assimilate to your idea of what culture is.

Home values? I live in a border state and I don't know what that means.
Seriously, you are historically very short-sighted. Do you know what happened when the Chinese, Irish, Italians, and Jewish immigrated to the United States in the 19th and early 20th centuries? They didn't assimilate! They formed their own little tight-knit communities. The second and third generations DID assimilate, though. There were nativists at the time who refused to believe that the Irish or Italians could ever become American culturally, but look where we are in 2007. What's more American than a big fattening pizza and the Godfather?
There are always growing pains when immigrants arrive, but only the ignorant expect too much too soon.

I live in a border state that has very high home values and low crime for the population. The immigrants to this area have accepted this country and community and for the most part are assimilating nicely.

The crime is so bad here groups of concerned citizens have begun to patrol the streets . Most if not all the crime is committed by poor people .
Since the number of poor has increased so much lately you have to expect a rise in crime .

Crime is through the roof here as jobs are non existent and theme parks and hotels are laying people off left and right .
Reporting the truth would panic people that disney attendance records are at lowest level in 20 years .
This nation no longer reports bad news .

I live on the Canadian border and don't have these problems. The Canadians are happy to stay in their country. They are not as corrupt as the Mexican government and they seem to have a lot of the same political issues we do and have a responsive government. If Mexico were more like Canada or the US this wouldn't be an issue.

I live very close to the border in AZ. Assimilation is not the word i would use to describe it. It kind of feels like with the distribution over the whole nation if they have a plan we're in big trouble.

I live in Texas. I used to own a ranch on the border. Seen it all. However, I would hope that not all 12 million illegals are like the ones that killed my livestock, contaminated my water, and threatened my children.

People cried about assimilation in the late 1800s when there were Italian and German language newspapers, and Germans were VERY active in the labor movement.

I am in texas and I think its great. I am a highly skilled person and I have very little competition for what I do so cheap labor does not scare me as much. But I love the flavor that they bring to this place. I like exposure to different things.
