I'm looking to go to school to major in theatre/acting with the goal of pursuing an acting career. Do agents/casting directors tend to favor actors with formal training over those who do not in most cases? If so, where is the best place to receive this formal training in the United States? Thanks in advance!

Talent Agents and Casting Directors definitely favor actors with formal training. It tells them the actor is serious about becoming a professional actor and not trying to become famous.

Casting Directors and Talent Agents, like to see that one has studied at a University that is well-known for training actors, for a professional career.

Juillard is the best in New York City.

Best is a relative term, but I can recommend researching Southern Utah University. SUU is located in Cedar City, Utah and houses a Tony award winning Shakespearean production company.

It offers a beautiful setting, a well known artistic development program, and a smaller, more personal atmosphere in which individuals of merit might actually find the attention they need to excel.

The main drawback--the community and area are gorgeous, but very Mormon. If you are not Mormon, you're still welcome, but there's no escaping the culture. It's sort of like being in a foreign country--how attractive or totally unappealing this looks depends on your tolerance for difference and for being in the cultural minority. But the program itself is awesome.
