When i first came to this site i especially the history section i expected to find interesting questions where i could share my knowledge of history and expand what i know of the subject that i love that is history. instead i find questions that are not even hard that you can just find it if one stopped being lazy and put the information on your google search and instead people come here to show their ignorance, like not trying to insult anybody but i am really dissapointed in this site and why are kids coming here for one to do their Hw heck im 16 and im not lazy to open my textbook or even wikipedia to do my own work this is just dumb people coming here for us who do or did our own work to do theirs

Some parts are downright scary....there's a question today asking when was WW2? Who fought in it?...I bet the poster knows who was on every show of American Idol this year, though........

I understand your frustration with this site......."homework help"
is even more appalling.......and the number of people who cut and paste their teachers questions and expect someone to do their work for them. It teaches them a fatal lesson, that they can skate by..and all I can suggest is take the historical view that those folks laziness will catch up with them sooner rather than latter ( can you say "Would you like fries with that burger?")

As a16 year old, you can offer an important voice to those lazy kids, saying something like gee. I'm 16 and here's how you find out stuff..then explain the search function or how to get to wikipedia ( not that wiki is that good..better to offer links to your own favorite sites)....

and there are some good questions here....like one about did the Cherokee take side in the Revolution.a question not frequently asked or easily found answer to....

and then you find something like a question today about the Japanese "Rape of Nanking" during the run up to WW2..a fairly smart sounding poster being amazed that she had just discovered this atrocity and wanting to know more about it...THAT'S why Answers is here and that's whom we who know what year the War of 1812 was fought should be encouraging.

Hang in there! and if you want to start a REALLY bad tempered argument, just ask anything about the Civil War ...."how over-rated was JEB Stuart?" "Should RE Lee been imprisoned or hung as a traitor?".and marvel at the responses!

I know. I'm 38 and I find most of the questions here very frustrating.

Most of the time you can clearly see that the question is from a student that simply doesn't want to do their homework. It's sad because they have no idea how they are cheating themselves.

I think the best course is just not to respond. Or if you can be tactful, encourage the person to actually read the material, they might just enjoy it.

The Internet is a wonderful tool for research, but it shouldn't be used for a short cut. I would love to see half these people try to use the materials I had to use in college. I bet most would wet themselves if they had to use the "Readers Guide to Periodical Literature".

The saddest part is by taking shortcuts in life you learn that they don't work forever. And that can end up being a painful lesson.

Your are right. This is a place to hang out. It is a huge community. Some people like to make jokes. Others are serious. So hang on there. I am sure your expertise will be well received when the right time arrives.

But I am also disappointed with general lack of seriousness. But sometimes you really get great answers.

Alas, you are too often correct...people ask questions that could be answered by a simple search...
But do you have a question?
