His pandering to the christian right on this issue is just nuts. Meanwhile, the rest of the world advances.

Regrettably, it is almost impossible for science in the US to survive with this idiot at the helm.

You need to check the facts. Bush is vetoing a bill that approves federal funds for stem cell research. There is no such law that prevents private funding. And, he's already approved federal funding for research on a very specific set of stem cell lines. There are simply too many Americans that believe this is wrong that he's doing the right thing by not approving federal funding for it. So, let's take the research to private enterprise. Anyone who supports it should donate money to it, and not use taxpayer funding for it.

For crying out loud people, stem cell research is not killing babies!!!! People who misunderstand, assume or just complain about everything and force it to be the way they want it to is why other countries are advancing faster than America. People are afraid of change and to take risks. When a mother can concieve a child, what do they turn to? In vitro fertilization. They take plenty of eggs and sperm from the father and mother. They make plenty of embryos but only put one back into the womb. The left over ones are kept for stem cell research, and it could save things such as cancer and aids. I know that some religions believe that life begins at conception, but deal with it! It life isn't always the way you want it to be, just suck it up. Those kind of people piss me off so much.

And to answer the question, I could not agree more. Bush is just being stupid and listening to what some of the people want. If we want to help the world though, don't we have to help ourselves first?

I back Bush on most issues but not on this issue. The US has the best health system in the world (unless the dems implement Universal Health care) and could do wonders with stem cell research.

They can still use private funds. And if stem cells was really that good you better believe the drug companies would already be all over it. Besides, he ran on the stance he would not support government funded stem cells, you faulting a guy for keeping his promise?

To cyntiajean222,
The stem cell treatments and cures have come from adult stem cells. Nothing has come from embryonic stem cells. He's vetoing FEDERAL funding for embryonic stem cell research. If privately funded research showed REAL results I'm sure he wouldn't be so quick to veto it.

I know, I agree. Bush has set our country back to the dark ages on many issues. It's upsetting how much damage he can do in the year and a half until we can finally kick him out. Stem cell research has proven to be able to help so many people with many different illnesses. Maybe if one of those illnesses befalls one of his loved ones someday, then maybe he'll wake up.

you got it wrong.. he is just opposing FEDERAL FUNDING for stem cell research, he's not making it illegal for private funding to do it.
