This would be applicable for an electromagnet. Pulsed just means the field is applied for a short time. It's easier to make a really high field if you do it this way because of power supply limits, Ohmic heat buildup, or material strength limits (magnetic fields apply a great force to the coil). Some applications don't need the field on for very long, and you can get fields *much* higher this way.

The strongest lab magnets are permanent, superconducting, and pulsed magnets. Permanent magnets retain their magnetism for a long time.
A pulse magnet provides very high magnetic fields as high as 72 T.
Pulsed magnets provide brief, but extreme magnetic fields. Their average life expectancy is between 500 and 800 pulses.

a pulsed magnetic field i think is produced by an electromagnet
to which signals are given in pulses.. like a pulsating DC current whose current value keeps varying almost sinusoidally but only that it never changes the direction.........
